DANIEL SEVIGNY CREATES SUCCESS

Former SCC Upward Bound student Daniel Sevigny, Director of Restorative Justice for Rowan County, directs an initiative that has just been ranked number one in the nation.

Sevigny, a graduate of Franklin High School, is the Project Director of Reclaiming Futures. This is a national initiative to change the way courts, judges and the Juvenile Justice Department view and treat juveniles who come into the court system with past/present substance abuse and mental health issues. The Rowan County site just received notification from the national office that they are number 1 out of 29 sites in the nation in assessing youths needs, engaging youth in treatment programs and treating underlying substance abuse/mental health issues. Once treatment is completed, the youth are re-engaging back into the community.

The Reclaiming Futures Model has been accepted as the way to track youth throughout the process and Savigne and his colleagues will be presenting the data in May to the heads of Juvenile Justice programs throughout the nation.
