Our second honoree is Katie Leonard, who received the honor for the week starting Oct. 27. Here’s a brief Q&A with Katie:

Q) What motivates you to continue and excel at SCC in spite of circumstances you may face?
A) My motivation is time. I left western North Carolina when I graduated high school and traveled around the country. Now I want to settle down into a career. I did dual enrollment at Southwestern Community College while I was in high school. So I already had credit hours here. Since I have my general education, I will be able to graduate a semester early.

Q) What advice would you give to future students who might face similar situations?
A) My advice to new students is to stick with it. It can be difficult when you're young to know what you want to major in. It's okay not to know. I started this Spring in the Paralegal program. We were required to take one Accounting course and I loved it. I talked to my advisor and he was so helpful in assisting me in what classes to take to add Accounting to my degree. So don't be afraid to take chances and try new things!
