Description: 

Research has shown that reducing the symptoms of mental illness is not the same thing as supporting mental health. Learn a few simple things that have been shown to support Mental Health and which will help you and your students learn and perform better. We’ll introduce the use of a simple Healthy-Thinking / Productive-Conversation Chart. Among other things, this can be used to help return to a healthy focus - or stop pushing on when or a student is (or we are) in no fit state to communicate or problem-solve effectively. We will have a taste of the calm, present, learner’s state of mind we wish for our students.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Understand the role of thought in generating our everyday experience – and discuss its unexpected implications.
  • Discuss how “state of mind” influences our sense of reality.
  • Differentiate between insights that are truly helpful and motivating for our students – and good ideas about how things should work.
  • Apply “Healthy-Thinking” charts to multiple school and life situations.
