Member, Board of Trustees
Appointed to SCC’s Board of Trustees by the N.C. Senate, Joyce Cooper was sworn in on July 23, 2024. Her current term runs through June of 2028. A lifelong educator, she spent almost 30 years in various roles at Haywood Community College before retiring in 2001. She endowed the “Pass It On” Scholarship to offer a hand up to Southwestern Community College students who might not otherwise be able to afford college. She’s also an active member of the SCC Foundation’s Gala Planning Committee. She previously served as Membership Manager for Museum of the Cherokee Indian for 11-1/2 years and is extremely active in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation – chairing or co-chairing the Great Smoky Mountains Chapter’s annual banquet every year since 2009.
