As part of Southwestern Community College’s annual “Welcome Back” festivities on Aug. 12, faculty and staff members were recognized for their years of service.
The United States Department of Education recently awarded Southwestern Community College a $1.38 million grant for the TRIO Student Support Services program.
Four-hundred-and-forty graduates earned their associate degrees, diplomas and/or certificates from Southwestern Community College in the spring and summer semesters.
Thanks to a significant contribution from presenting sponsor Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort and the generosity of more than 180 attendees on July 25, the Southwestern Community College Foundation’s “Bluegrass, Blue Jeans & Bling” gala yielded more than $51,000 that will be used to create the $1 million endowed Student Success fund.
Jean Ellen Forrister, a longtime administrator and English Instructor at Southwestern Community College, has been appointed to the college’s board of trustees.
Wells Fargo gave the SCC Foundation $3,000 to create a Workforce Development Assistance Fund, a grant program that will aid students in need with the costs of workforce certification testing.
Terry Bell was recently sworn in for a new term on Southwestern Community College’s board of trustees.
