Southwestern Community College is governed by a local Board of Trustees within the framework of the North Carolina General Assembly Amendment, Senate Bill 776, Part IV., Section 4 of the General Statutes of North Carolina, notwithstanding G.S. 115D-13, as amended by Section 6.10(o) of S.L. 2023-2024. The Board consists of 16 trustees – eight appointed by the county commissioners of Jackson (4), Macon (2) and Swain (2) Counties, four appointed by the North Carolina House and four appointed by the North Carolina Senate.
