Eleven Southwestern Community College students were inducted into the Alpha Beta Gamma honor society on April 27 at the college’s Jackson Campus.
There’s nothing unusual about neighboring mountain high schools competing for supremacy inside a local gymnasium, but the competition that took place last month at Cherokee High School’s auxiliary gym wasn’t your typical interscholastic contest.
For nine years, Gary Dunlap was content with working at the Liberty Bell historic site, in his native Philadelphia, as an armed security guard for a private contractor that had been hired by the National Park Service.
Throughout his life, Jeff Cloer was always inspired by his mother’s dedication to the young children in her care as a director of Macon County’s HeadStart program and also as a kindergarten and first grade teacher.
“If you can change a classroom, you can change a community, and if you change enough communities you can change the world,” said Erin Gruwell, teacher and award-winning novelist of “The Freedom Writers Diary”.
Hard work and long hours never bothered Marc Parks.
