Officials from Blue Ridge Community College and Southwestern Community College announced this week that they are launching the Western North Carolina Respiratory Care Consortium, which expands access to respiratory therapy education in the region.

The funding will establish a Project SHIFT (SCC Health-career Initiative For Teens) office, which aims to recruit enough prospective students to maximize the capacity of SCC’s 16 Healthcare career fields.

This program allows young men and women (ages 18-30) with disabilities to gain marketable employability skills through classes and hands-on internships, and this year’s graduates made a lot of friends along the way.
