Cliff Stalter has been hired by Southwestern Community College to serve as vice president for financial and administrative services.

Over a career spent both in corporate and higher-education finance, Cliff Stalter found some of his most enjoyable employment while helping students succeed.

That’s why he’s thrilled to be Southwestern Community College’s new vice president for financial and administrative services. He succeeds Janet Burnette, who retired in October.

“I’m absolutely amazed at the quality of people at every position here,” said Stalter, whose first day was Jan. 5. “I’m excited about using my business background to help Southwestern Community College and our faculty and staff, because I know doing so will help our students to succeed. This is the fourth school where I’ve worked, and what impresses me most here is how the focus is squarely on our students. Every member of the faculty and staff I’ve meet cares deeply about our students.”

Prior to joining SCC, Stalter worked for Athene Annuity & Life Assurance Co. (2012-14) and Experis Financial (2008-12).

He also served as director of administrative services at Blue Ridge Community College (2007-08). He previously spent four years at Chattanooga State Community College (2004-07), where he taught part-time in addition to serving as business department head.

A Winston-Salem native, Stalter earned his bachelor of arts in accounting from Pfeiffer University and his master of accountancy from Virginia Commonwealth University.

He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in North Carolina and Virginia.

“We are so fortunate to find someone with the level of knowledge and expertise that Cliff brings to Southwestern,” said Dr. Don Tomas, president of SCC. “He has a wealth of real-world experience, and we’re honored he’s agreed to join our college family.”
