Howard Allman joins SCC’s Board of Trustees, McCall renews membership

2023-07-05

Southwestern Community College Foundation Board member and Jackson County native Howard Allman was sworn in as a member of SCC’s Board of Trustees on Friday, June 30.

Allman was appointed by the Jackson County Board of Commissioners.

“I’m looking forward to serving on the SCC Board of Trustees,” said Allman. “I’ve been on the SCC Foundation Board since 2019, and I’ve seen all of the good work that they do for the students. I look forward to continue being a part of that work.”

A 1981 graduate of SCC, then called Southwestern Technical College, and a graduate of Western Carolina University, Allman has worked for his family’s insurance business while also serving various public service roles in the Jackson County community, including acting as Chair of the Jackson County Public Library Board.

On the same day, SCC Trustee Cory McCall renewed his membership for a second term. He initially joined the Board of Trustees in 2019.

McCall is an eighth-generation native of Macon County. In addition to Outdoor 76, a specialty outfitter in downtown Franklin, McCall co-owns Brown Dog Tees and Rock House Lodge. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism from Western Carolina University.

He serves on the Macon County Economic Development Commission board along with the Growing Outdoors Partnership. McCall’s grandfather, Jerry Sutton, served on SCC’s board for 32 years.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve on the SCC Board of Trustees again,” said McCall. “It is evident the impact that SCC has on its students and on every community here in North Carolina and beyond.”

Both Allman and McCall’s terms run through June 30, 2026.
