Nursing program extends application deadline

2023-03-02

Nursing student Glenn BarnettIn an effort to help address the region’s nursing shortage, Southwestern Community College is extending its Nursing program’s application period for the upcoming fall semester.

The new deadline is noon on March 31 or until all seats are filled.

“Thanks to the expanded space in our Don Tomas Health Sciences Center and the addition of new faculty members, we are able to accommodate more Nursing students than ever before,” said Dr. Thom Brooks, Executive Vice President for Instruction & Student Services at SCC. “By allowing more time for additional applicants, we’re making sure we get the best possible pool of candidates from which to choose our next class of Nursing students.”

The extended time allows all applicants the opportunity to address and fulfill admission requirements, such as achieving a score of 65 or higher on the TEAS exam.

Southwestern offers two pathways to a Nursing Career: The traditional two-year associate degree and the Western North Carolina Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses (WNC RIBN) program, a collaboration with Western Carolina University that allows students to take their first three years toward a bachelor’s degree at SCC.
