Radiography students tour Emory University

2023-07-31

On Tuesday, July 18, three Southwestern Community College Radiography students took a trip to Emory University in Atlanta.

Second year students Justin Hussey, Michael Winchester and Blake Robertson were accompanied by Radiography Clinical Coordinator, Kim Argo, to tour the campus and meet with the university’s Medical Imaging Program director, Ted Brzinski, and MRI instructor, Sean Strickler.

Emory currently has a bridge program from SCC’s Radiography program to a bachelor’s of medical science in Medical Imaging.

“I’ve had four students in the last 12 years transfer to Emory,” said Argo. “This is the first time since I’ve been teaching here that I had three students from the same class interested in this program.”

After hearing about the program, the students urged Argo to reach out to the university to set up an information session and tour the campus. Argo obliged, and they were able to visit and learn about MRI and other medical advances through Emory.

“I was impressed by the level of effort put forth by the students and their coordinator,” said Brzinski. “During their visit they asked relevant and thoughtful questions with a clear sense of their future educational and career goals. Southwestern students in the past have done very well in our program, and we look forward to having these students apply.”

All three students plan to attend Emory in the summer of 2024, following their graduation from SCC in May.

“It was an amazing experience, the program director and instructor were very welcoming and informative,” said Hussey. “I am very excited about the prospect of attending after my completion at SCC.”
