On Valentine’s Day, representatives of First Citizens Bank presented a gift of $30,000 to the Southwestern Community College Foundation on behalf of the Robert P. Holding Foundation, Inc.
The gift will be used to create an endowed scholarship.
Robert P. Holding was considered instrumental in the founding and development of First Citizens Bank, which was established in 1898. Holding was known for his philanthropy, so the Foundation has followed suit with the scholarship.
“The Foundation believes that community colleges are essential to our communities,” said Darren Morton, First Citizens Bank Institutional Consultant. “The Foundation recognizes that education changes lives and it changes generations, and believes that supporting community colleges makes a difference in local communities.”
This new scholarship will be added to the nearly 60 scholarships the SCC Foundation has to offer its students.
“I’ve really enjoyed hearing the stories about the real-life impact the students are making once they graduate from the college,” added Craig Letendre, First Citizens Bank Portfolio Strategist.
The scholarship will be available to any student attending SCC.
“The SCC Foundation is grateful for this investment,” said Brett Woods, SCC Foundation Director. “The Robert P. Holding Foundation understands the mission of community colleges and how we serve as catalysts for impactful positive change within our communities.”
