SYLVA – Southwestern Community College’s Automotive Systems Technology program has been awarded a $7,500 Propane Autogas Vehicle Inspection Grant from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC).
The grant supports a propane-specific curriculum that gives hands-on learning experience to prepare future technicians for the growing number of propane-powered vehicles across the country.
Dylan Lipe, Internal Auditor for The Blossman Companies said, “In the Jackson County community alone, we have entire fleets with Jackson County Transit and The Great Smoky Mountains National Park operating on Autogas.”
Funding will be applied toward classroom supplies and instructor travel to the Southeast Propane Alliance Technical Education Center in Graham.
As part of the program, SCC will participate in PERC’s Train the Trainer workshop on June 5 and 6. The workshop is designed to prepare instructors to teach the Propane Autogas Vehicle Inspection: Introduction for Automobile Service Technicians curriculum.
