2023-04-14

NASA PartnerSYLVA  – The Smoky Mountains STEM Collaborative (SMSC) is partnering with Southwestern Community College (SCC) to host a Student Research Expo and STEM Career Fair from 1-4 p.m. on Apr. 27 in the Burrell Conference Center on Southwestern’s Jackson Campus.

The SMSC and Mike Despeaux, Director of Career Services at SCC, are organizing an event that combines Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) with employment opportunities. Employers in STEM fields will have booths to showcase the various roles these elements have to offer in the business environment.

A panel of SCC graduates will share experiences and success stories in pursuing jobs in STEM. That will be followed by a NASA Career Pitch livestream featuring Paige Graff, Science Engagement and Communication Specialist at Johnson Space Center. She’ll have in-depth conversations with NASA engineers and scientists who come from rural backgrounds.

The STEM Expo is open to the public and anyone who is interested is welcome to attend.
