Southwestern Community College recently signed an Honors Program Memorandum of Understanding with UNC Asheville. This signing is the most recent in a series of partnerships Southwestern is cultivating with NC Senior Institutions to academically support high achieving SCC students. Dr. Thom Brooks, Vice President for Instruction and Student Services, “We have truly outstanding students earning honors credit at SCC, and this agreement further expands their access and options for participating in the Honors Program at UNCA.” Through Southwestern’s Honors Program MOU’s, Southwestern students are able to earn Senior Institution Honors College credit while attending SCC. Dr. Don Tomas, SCC President, “We are pleased to be working with UNC Asheville. This partnership continues to demonstrate the quality and success of our Honors Program by providing our students with excellent transfer opportunities, and allows them to parlay their outstanding academic achievements here at SCC to UNC Asheville.”
Southwestern currently has Honor Program agreements with WCU, ASU, UNCC, NC State, UNCW, UNCG, Mars Hill College, UNCA and UNC Pembroke. Cheryl Contino-Conner, Director of SCC’s Honors Program, indicated there are additional MOU’s to be signed this summer. “Southwestern has always been in the business of academic excellence. For those of us who work at SCC, we’ve always known that – our faculty are top-notch. What our MOU’s signify is the level of respect and appreciation the senior institutions have for our curriculums.” Contino-Conner said.
