The latest Student of the Week honoree is Carla Murdock, a student in the Associate Degree in Medical Assisting. The weekly honor is determined by our Student Recognition Retention Action Team.
Carla aims to graduate in May, 2016. She answered a couple of questions recently:
Q) What motivates you to continue and excel at SCC in spite of circumstances you may face?
A) My motivation is my 17 month old son, Conner, I want to be able to show him later in life that when you set your mind to something it can be achieved regardless of obstacles put in your path. You just have to push forward and stay determined, no matter what! Being a single mother is a hard job but adding college to the mix seems almost impossible, but I have the mind-set and willingness to prove to myself that I am capable of both full-time jobs, Motherhood and a College Career.
Q) What advice would you give to future students who might face similar situations?
A) My advice to future students at Southwestern Community College would be that no matter what life throws your way, stay strong and focused. If you need help don't be afraid to ask for it, because life can be a crazy roller coaster ride!
