Student of the Week: Matt Draughon

2018-05-03

Matt Draughon, Student of the WeekTo honor some of our most tenacious students, our Student Recognition Retention Action Team chooses a “Student of the Week” throughout the academic year.

Following is a quick bio and Q&A with Matt Draughon, our honoree for the week of April 30:

Program: Outdoor Leadership
Expected graduation date: August 2018

Q) What motivates you to continue and excel at SCC in spite of circumstances you may face?
A) Motivation is never hard to come by in the Outdoor Leadership program. Paul Wolf and the entire academic and administrative staff in the Outdoor Leadership program foster a community of confidence, by encouraging and supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom. Seeing the incredible impact that this program has had on myself and other students, is what truly inspires me to march on. Their example has forever transformed me, and should serve as a motivation to us all.

Q) What advice would you give to future students who might face similar situations?
A) Know thyself. When times of true adversity come we often find ourselves alone. It is in these times that we must sit with ourselves. We must commune with ourselves. We must wait – with ourselves. And like we cannot see ourselves without the help of a mirror, we cannot see our souls without the help of another. So, every second of every day, go and find another. And give to them the best of what you have to offer. That you may see the greatness that truly resides within you.
