Got a slice of SCC or regional history? Bring it to archive scanning days Feb. 24-25

2025-02-17

Southwestern Community College’s “Archival Revival” team is hosting a pair of community scanning days on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 24-25.

A group of archivists from the NC Digital Heritage Center will be available from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday at SCC’s Jackson Campus in Sylva and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Tuesday at the SCC Swain Center in Bryson City.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to help preserve our local history,” said Norrie Meus, SCC’s History Instructor who heads up the “Archival Revival” team. “We’re looking for any and all items related to the history of SCC and our college’s service area.”

Documents, photos, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, posters and more are welcome. Three-dimensional items like quilts, tools and archives can also be documented.

Members of SCC’s Public Relations team will also be available to capture audio and video of anyone who wants to share stories or oral history about the college.

Anyone who can’t make it in person at those days and times can make arrangements with SCC’s team to get items dropped off or picked up.
